It has been a few weeks since the last update and I have been waiting on news from our lawyer on a closing date. Unfortunately, we don't have one yet. So many people are excited about seeing the Center, teaching classes, holding events, and just using our electricity for the Dryden Holiday Celebration on Saturday, December 6th. Hopefully we will be in the building by then, but we are just in a holding pattern for the moment.
But don't worry, just because we are not in the building does not mean that things haven't been happening behind the scenes here at the DCC! Our latest news is that we now have a fiscal sponsor thanks to the Homer Center for the Arts. While the DCC waits for approval of our 501(c)3 status, donors who need/prefer to donate to a federally-recognized organization can do so through HCA. And the best part of this is that 100% of donated funds will be coming to the DCC! I am so excited to be partnering with our friends in Homer and they are excited to be supporting us!
More potential teachers have been added to our list - yoga, Rock Steady Boxing, Filipino martial arts, cookie decorating, etc. Our board of directors is now meeting twice a month as we discuss the budget, a 5 year plan, staff, and events. Talks are underway for a books-to-movie summer series with the Southworth Library. And Marion Ferrer of Sincredible Pastries will be offering a sweet deal on her upcoming holiday cookie boxes - 10% of all sales will be donated to the DCC!
All this and more will happen thanks to your support! Fundraising continues; it would be wonderful to meet our goal of $400,000 before we walk through those doors. As we come to the end of the year, consider donating (again) to the Dryden Center for Community and spread the word to other folks in your circle who may also be interested in donating. You can also let us know how you want to be involved in ways other than donating money by filling out the form on our "Contact" page
Thank you for your support!
